Traffic stop leads to drug and driving charges
A Kitchener man faces trafficking and driving charges following a traffic stop in Guelph Saturday night.
Just after 9 p.m. officers observed a vehicle leaving a business on Silvercreek Parkway South and pulled it over to check the insurance status. The driver said the vehicle did not belong to him but was able to provide the appropriate paperwork.
Investigation revealed the driver is bound by six driving prohibitions. He was placed under arrest and a search revealed several individual packages of cocaine as well as nearly $1,400 in cash.
A 58-year-old Kitchener man is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, four counts of driving while prohibited and two counts of driving while suspended. He will appear in court August 4. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days. (Occurrence number GU26030183)
Witnesses sought following collision
The Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit is seeking witnesses or dashcam footage after a collision Friday which closed a major road.
Just before 2:30 p.m. emergency services were called to Woodlawn Road West and the Hanlon Expressway for a three-vehicle collision. A portion of Woodlawn Road West was closed for nearly an hour for the investigation.
An occupant from one of the vehicles was transported to hospital by Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service for treatment of minor injuries.

Visitor has vehicle stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a Gravenhurst man had his car stolen while visiting Guelph on the weekend.
Approximately 5 p.m. Saturday police were called to an address near Auden Road and Eastview Road. A man said he was visiting a friend and awoke to find his Kia Rondo missing. The car was located by police just after 7:30 p.m. in a parking lot on Willow Road and seized for further examination.

The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Stunt driver taken off the road
A Puslinch man was taken off the road and had his vehicle impounded after he was caught Friday night driving nearly twice the speed limit.
Approximately 10:10 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was patrolling on Woodlawn Road West when they observed a black Jeep travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer followed the Jeep and clocked it at 112 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone. A 38-year-old Puslinch man is charged with stunt driving, speeding and failing to provide his driver’s licence.
His licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days. A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points.
