Three officers assaulted following arrest
A Guelph man faces several charges after three Guelph Police Service officers were assaulted Wednesday evening.
Approximately 7:30 p.m. police were called to a family dispute at a north-end residence. A 35-year-old Guelph man was arrested at the scene for assault, mischief under $5,000 and theft.
He was transported to the police station, where he became aggressive with officers in the cellblock area and struck three officers. None of the officers were injured.
As a result the man was further charged with three counts of assaulting police. He will appear in court August 7. (Occurrence number GU26031055)
Impaired charge after traffic stop
A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving following a traffic stop early Thursday.
Approximately 12:45 a.m. an officer was patrolling on Wellington Street West near Edinburgh Road South when he observed a vehicle being driven erratically and pulled it over. While speaking to the driver the officer noted an odour of alcohol on his breath.
The driver registered a fail on a roadside breath test. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
A 36-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation, driving with open alcohol, driving with an obstructed licence plate and failing to provide proof of insurance. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court June 26.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
