Suspect rams cruiser while fleeing
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a police cruiser was rammed by suspects fleeing a break and enter scene Monday night.
Approximately 8:15 p.m. police were called to a car dealership on Woodlawn Road West after a witness saw suspects using a grinder to cut the locks off a security gate. Officers arrived and found a grey Acura SUV parked in the driveway of the dealership. An officer attempted to block it in however the driver collided with the side of the cruiser and fled the area.
Investigation revealed the suspects had attempted to steal a Jeep Wrangler from the lot but were interrupted when officers arrived.
The three male suspects were all wearing black clothing including hoodies. One was described as possibly southeast Asian with a black beard and also wearing black sweatpants, white shoes and a black baseball cap. They were travelling in a grey Acura RDX.

Teen arrested on assault, firearm charges
A Guelph teen faces assault and weapons charges after a man reported being beat up and having a gun pointed at him Monday night.
Approximately 8:30 p.m. the victim went to a south-end school to meet up with a female, however was instead met by the teen who began threatening him. The victim tried to flee but was caught and assaulted by the youth and two other males who had arrived in a vehicle. During the altercation one of the males pointed a gun at the victim and pulled the trigger but nothing happened. The firearm is believed to be a replica.
The victim sustained minor injuries to his face and head.
A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with assault, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and using a firearm while committing an offence. He will appear in court July 8. (Occurrence number GU26032339)
Driver asleep, charged with careless driving
A New York man is charged with careless driving after he was found asleep while his car drove itself through Guelph Saturday evening.
At 6:30 p.m. police were notified of a man asleep behind the wheel of his Tesla while it drove north on the Hanlon Expressway. An officer located the vehicle driving on the Hanlon near Speedvale Avenue and confirmed the driver was asleep.
The vehicle was pulled over and a 60-year-old New York man charged with careless driving. (Occurrence number GU26031821)
Kids found in car with impaired driver
Five motorists were arrested for impaired driving in Guelph over the long weekend, including one that had his two young kids in the back seat.
Approximately 7:40 p.m. Saturday police were notified of a possible impaired driver on Woodlawn Road East, and a short time later observed the involved vehicle turning into a driveway and parking half on the grass. An officer observed two children under 10 in the back seat without seatbelts.
After failing a roadside breath test the driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests revealed he had more than twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system. Investigation revealed the 43-year-old Guelph man was previously charged with impaired driving last September. Those charges are still before the courts.
As a result of Saturday’s incident he faces new charges of impaired driving and dangerous driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was seized indefinitely to prevent further offences.

· A 30-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving after an officer observed a vehicle being driven erratically at 11:30 p.m. Friday
· An 18-year-old Mississauga man was arrested for impaired driving and possessing a fake driver’s licence after a traffic stop on Stone Road West at 12:30 a.m. Saturday
· A 23-year-old Burlington man was arrested for impaired driving after an intoxicated man was seen leaving a business on Woodlawn Road West at 1:45 a.m. Saturday
· A 29-year-old Aurora man was arrested for impaired driving after witnesses observed a motorcycle being driven erratically in the parking lot of a business on Woodlawn Road West at 2:25 a.m. Sunday.
Each of the accused had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. They were released with upcoming court dates.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Employee assaulted at downtown business
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after an employee of a downtown business was assaulted Friday afternoon.
Just before 4:30 p.m. a man was acting erratically inside a business near Norfolk Street and Paisley Street. An employee asked him to leave, leading to a verbal confrontation.
Once outside the store the employee took out his phone to take a picture of the suspect, who responded by striking him in the wrist causing a small bruise. The investigation is ongoing. (Occurrence number GU26031527)
