Two arrested for drug-impaired driving
Two men were arrested Tuesday in separate cases of impaired driving involving drugs.
Just before 4 p.m. police were notified of a driver possibly impaired by cannabis and located the vehicle in a parking lot near Gordon Street and Wellington Street. While speaking to the driver officers noted a strong odour of burned cannabis on his person. A marijuana cigarette and open package of marijuana were observed inside the vehicle.
The driver was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.
A 31-year-old Whitby man is charged with impaired driving and having care of a vehicle with open cannabis.
At 6:35 p.m. police were called for a two-vehicle collision on Teal Drive. One of the drivers believed the other was impaired. Officers arrived on scene and observed one driver to be showing signs of impairment. He was placed under arrest and a search revealed a baggie of suspected cocaine in his pocket.
He was transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded his ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.
A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, possessing a controlled substance and driving while suspended.
Both drivers had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. They were released with upcoming court dates.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Laptop stolen while owner home
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a man had his laptop stolen while he was home Tuesday night.
Approximately 10:15 p.m. police were called to an address on Stone Road West. The victim said he was working on a university assignment in the living room then went into the kitchen to prepare food. When he returned to the living room his laptop was missing.
The victim looked outside and saw a man holding the laptop. He yelled at the man, who fled with the computer. The suspect was wearing a large brown jacket, black winter hat and black pants and was riding a black bicycle.
