Arrest after sexual assault at business
A Guelph man was arrested after an employee of a downtown business was sexually assaulted on the weekend.
Just before 9 p.m. Saturday police were called to the business. An employee said she was working when a man touched her inappropriately before walking away. Officers located the man in the area and he was arrested.
A 39-year-old Guelph man is charged with sexual assault and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for bail and has been released to appear in court June 26. (Occurrence number GU26033528)
Attempt break-in while family home
A Guelph man faces charges after trying to break into a downtown home during a dispute with the owners early Saturday.
Just after 6 a.m. officers were called to a home on Dublin Street North. The owners said a man knocked on their door and asked if he could have some furniture which had been left outside. When he was told he could not the man became angry and confrontational.
The owners went back into the house where their children were sleeping, but the man tried to gain entry by punching through a screen and pulling the storm door hard enough to break the handle. Officers arrived and saw the man in a verbal confrontation with the owner on the front lawn. He was arrested after a short foot pursuit.
A 29-year-old Guelph man is charged with attempted break and enter, breaching probation and failing to leave a property when directed. He was held for a bail hearing Monday. (Occurrence number GU26033396)
Noxious spray used in assault
A teenage girl faces assault and weapons charges after a noxious spray was discharged Friday afternoon.
Police were called at 2:30 p.m. to an address near Woolwich Street and Norfolk Street where it was learned a man had been sprayed in the face. The man left the area before police arrived, however officers were able to view security camera footage of the incident.
A 17-year-old Guelph girl is charged with assault with a weapon, possessing a prohibited weapon and administering a noxious substance. She was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court June 10. (Occurrence number GU26033250)
Impaired charge after driving complaint
A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after a driving complaint Saturday night.
Just before 11 p.m. police were called about a possible impaired driver in the area of Tovell Drive and Westra Drive. Officers arrived to find a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a car and observed several empty alcohol containers in the back seat area. He was showing signs of impairment and handed officers a piece of paper when asked for his licence.
After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests indicated he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 28-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court July 7.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
