Nudes lead to extortion
Residents are reminded not to share intimate images online, after a Guelph man was extorted this week.
On Monday he reported he had been communicating with someone he believed was a female through a social media app. During the lengthy conversation he sent intimate images of himself, then began receiving messages threatening to release the photos if he did not pay $500.
The man eventually sent $150 via online gift cards before telling the suspect he would not pay more and ending communication.
Intimate images should not be shared online, as they can be saved and redistributed at any time. If someone requests such images -- especially someone not personally known to you – do not comply and cease communicating with them. (Occurrence number GU26029021)
