Two officers assaulted during arrest
A Guelph man faces several charges after two Guelph Police Service officers were assaulted while arresting him Saturday morning.
Approximately 8:30 a.m. police were dispatched to a business on Woodlawn Road West after a man walked out with more than $100 in clothing and other items. Officers learned the suspect had boarded a city bus and pulled it over nearby.
The man was told he was under arrest but began physically struggling with officers, grabbing onto them and attempting to kick them. He was eventually handcuffed and removed from the bus. The officers were not injured.
A 50-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft under $5,000, two counts of assaulting police to resist arrest and three counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for bail and has been released to appear in court December 9.
Arrested with drugs and cash downtown
A Guelph man was arrested after being caught with drugs and cash early Saturday.
Approximately 1:35 a.m. police stopped a taxi on Carden Street as the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt. Officers spoke to the passenger, who provided two variations of his name and date of birth. He was removed from the car and arrested for obstructing police.
After determining his true identity, officers learned the man was breaching a conditional sentence of house arrest. A search incident to arrest revealed quantities of cocaine, Hydromorphone and Dilaudid, as well as more than $6,000 in cash.
A 42-year-old Guelph man is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, obstructing police and possessing proceeds of crime. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
$2,800 in formula stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after four men stole nearly $2,800 in baby formula.
On Friday, staff of a business near Gordon Street and Harvard Road reported the theft which occurred a day earlier. Approximately 3 p.m. Thursday, four men entered the business and walked out with a large amount of formula. They were described as:
1. Brown skin, 35-40 years, 5’9” to 5’11”, slim build, light beard, black and grey hair, brown winter jacket, grey t-shirt, black jeans, black shoes
2. Brown skin, 30-40 years, 5’9” to 5’11”, average build, light beard, black hair, black winter jacket, grey hoodie, grey track pants, black shoes
3. Brown skin, 18-27 years, 5’7” to 5’9”, slim build, black hair, black winter jacket, black t-shirt, light grey and black track pants, white shoes
4. Brown skin, 30-40 years, 5’11” to 6’, heavy build, black beard, black hair, black hoodie with yellow on sleeves, black track pants, black shoes, baseball cap.
They were seen leaving the area westbound on Harvard Road in an older black Dodge Caravan.

Woman arrested after neighbour assaulted
A Guelph woman is charged with assault after a neighbour dispute early Sunday left a man with a large gash on his forehead.
Approximately 2:30 a.m. emergency services were called to a home near Paisley Street and Norfolk Street where they found a man with blood all over his face and clothing. He said a neighbour with whom he has an ongoing dispute had attended his unit and forced her way inside before striking him several times with a large wrench. He was able to disarm her and remove her from his unit.
The victim was treated on scene by paramedics. Officers located the woman and placed her under arrest.
A 35-year-old Guelph woman is charged with assault with a weapon, being unlawfully in a dwelling and breaching a probation order. She was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court December 9.
Invalid plates lead to impaired arrest
A Rockwood man faces impaired driving and other charges following a traffic stop in Guelph Saturday.
Just after 3 p.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit pulled over a blue Subaru after the cruiser’s automated licence plate reader alerted to plates which were not registered to a vehicle.
While speaking to the driver the officer detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. After failing a roadside test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 37-year-old Rockwood man is charged with impaired operation, using unauthorized plates, failing to surrender a licence and driving a vehicle without insurance. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court November 28.

Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home. Anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver is asked to immediately call 911.
