Jewelry smash and grab

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after three men broke into a south-end jewelry store early Monday.

Just after midnight police received multiple alarm calls from a business near Edinburgh Road South and Kortright Road West.  Police contacted the business owner, who confirmed he could see broken glass on his security cameras.

Officers arrived to find the rear door had been pried open. A number of glass cabinets and display cases were smashed and a quantity of jewelry stolen.

Three male suspects were caught on video. The first was wearing a black Reebok hoodie, black toque, gloves and a headlamp with a black band. The second was wearing a black Nike Soccer hoodie with the hood up, black baseball cap, black pants and gloves and the third was wearing a green sweater with black squares on the shoulders, black pants, a black balaclava and gloves. A witness saw a beige or silver sedan leaving the area around the same time, but it is not known if it was involved.

Social service agency employee assaulted

A Guelph man has been arrested after an employee of a social service agency was assaulted last week.

Just after 1 p.m. last Wednesday, the victim was working at a downtown agency when a client known to him entered. The client became agitated and began yelling and swearing at the worker before slamming his hands on a table and then pushing it hard enough that the worker was pinned. The worker was not injured.

On Friday afternoon a 52-year-old Guelph man was located downtown and arrested for assault and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court December 30.

 

Brand new Jeep stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a 2025 Jeep was stolen.

On Friday morning a resident of Waterloo Avenue reported his grey four-door 2025 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon had been stolen overnight from the parking lot of his apartment building. The Jeep has a matching grey roof but no other distinguishing features.

The Guelph Police Service encourages residents to take steps to protect themselves from auto theft. This can include parking indoors when possible or in well-lit areas, ensuring vehicle doors and windows are closed and locked, employing anti-theft devices to prevent vehicles from being started or steered and using devices to block signals from electronic keys. Please report suspicious activity around unattended vehicles, especially during overnight hours.

 

Garage entered, vehicle damaged

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after someone entered the garage at a north-end home and caused damage to the owner’s vehicle.

Approximately 7:30 a.m. Saturday a resident near Woolwich Street and Clarke Street went out to his garage and noticed a strange smell. He opened his car door and noted a strong smell as well as ash on the console and a lighter on the seat. As well several burn marks were observed on the console and armrest and a small amount of cash was missing.

Arrested twice in one day

A Guelph man has been arrested for stealing children’s gifts from the porch of a downtown-area home.

Approximately 11:15 a.m. Sunday a resident of Nottingham Street contacted police after his home’s security system alerted him to the theft. A man went onto the porch and stole two packages which contained gifts for the homeowner’s children. Four hours later police were called for a suspicious person at a north-end business and recognized the male from the earlier theft.

A 26-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft under $5,000. He was released with a future court date, however Sunday evening was arrested again after entering a downtown apartment building and stealing items. He was held for a bail hearing Monday.
