Air rifles stolen during break-in

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after three air rifles and other items were stolen during a break-in to a north-end business.

Approximately 2:15 a.m. Tuesday police were called to a business on Woodlawn Road East. The manager said he responded to an alarm activation and saw two men running out the back door of the business carrying duffel bags. A large hole had been cut at the rear of the business allowing entry.

While officers were on scene a man ran from the back of the business and fled into a nearby wooded area. He was not located.

Power tools, vacuum cleaners and three air rifles were reported missing. Some tools and one of the rifles was later recovered. As well a large quantity of merchandise was located in plastic bins and bags near the back of the store.

The first suspect was described as a white male wearing a dark Ecko sweater, khaki pants and white shoes. The second was a white male wearing a navy blue sweater with a yellow crest, light grey sweatpants, black shoes and a white face covering.

Assault, weapons charges following disturbance

A Guelph man faces assault and weapons charges following a disturbance at a west-end home.

Just after 4 p.m. Tuesday police were dispatched to a home near Paisley Road and Stephanie Drive for reports of a family dispute during which a knife was briefly brandished and damage was caused throughout the main floor.

The suspect fled before police arrived but was located nearby and arrested. A couple in their 50s and a woman in her 20s sustained minor injuries.

A 28-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, assault, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and mischief under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.

 

Third arrest in group assault

A third teen has been arrested after another boy was beaten up by several individuals last month.

Approximately 7:45 p.m. October 9, several teens were at a school on Scottsdale Drive when one boy was struck in the back of the head and knocked to the ground. Three males then kicked him repeatedly in the head and torso, causing a chipped tooth and other injuries. He also had his hoodie torn and his vape stolen. 

On Tuesday a 16-year-old Guelph boy was arrested for assault causing bodily harm, robbery and mischief under $5,000. Two 15-year-olds had previously been arrested on the assault and mischief charges. All three have been released with future court dates.
