Report of blade in Halloween candy

Parents are urged to closely check their children’s remaining Halloween candy after a mother reported finding a blade in a chocolate bar.

On Sunday, a Kitchener resident called the Guelph Police Service. Her child had been trick-or-treating in the Applewood Crescent area of Guelph Saturday night with friends. While looking through the candy on Sunday the complainant reported she found what appeared to be the end of a construction-style knife blade in the seam of a chocolate bar wrapper.

It is not known where the child received the candy.

Health Canada offers these tips for parents:

  • Don't let kids eat any candy or other treats until you or another adult has checked it.
  • Throw away anything homemade.
  • Check all commercially wrapped treats for small holes in the wrappers. Throw out anything that's torn, unwrapped or in loose packaging.
  • When in doubt, throw it out!

Three arrested inside vacant home

Three people face charges after they were arrested inside a vacant west-end home where officers discovered walls were being damaged to access and remove wiring.

Just before 9 a.m. Friday police were called about suspicious activity at a house near Whitelaw Road and Shoemaker Crescent and found a side door which had been forced open.

Officers conducted call-outs and a woman immediately exited the house and was arrested. It was believed more people were inside but when they ignored officers a canine unit was dispatched and found two men hiding in the house.
