Delivery driver arrested for stealing package

A delivery driver has been arrested for stealing a package he claimed to have delivered successfully.

In Mid-October, an east-end resident contacted police to report a package theft. She had ordered a pair of pants online and had them delivered to her condo building. The delivery driver sent an email with a photo of the package inside the building’s parcel locker, but when the victim went to retrieve the package it was gone.

The building manager reviewed security video, which showed the delivery driver placing the package in the locker, snapping a photo of it and then removing the package and carrying it out of the building.

On Wednesday a 28-year-old Kitchener man was arrested for theft under $5,000. He will appear in court December 23.

Arrest for two home break-ins

A Guelph man has been arrested in connection with two break-ins at downtown-area homes last month.

Approximately 12:25 a.m. October 16, a man climbed over a fence at a residence near Metcalfe Street and Palmer Street and attempted to gain entry to the garage after prying off screen windows.

Unsuccessful, he then attended another address in the same neighborhood and threw a large rock through a garage window. He entered the garage and stole a bicycle valued at $2,700.

The suspect was identified by the Guelph Police Service Break Enter Auto Theft Unit. On Wednesday night he was located at a west-end business and arrested. A small amount of suspected fentanyl was located during the arrest.

A 24-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts each of break and enter, disguise with intent and trespassing at night as well as possessing break-in tools and possessing a controlled substance. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.

Afternoon impaired arrest

Just before 2 p.m. staff of a business on Silvercreek Parkway North reported an intoxicated female refusing to leave the business. They reported she had driven to the business and her vehicle was parked outside.

Officers arrived and placed the woman under arrest for impaired operation. She was transported to the police station, where she repeatedly refused to provide a breath sample.

A 45-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired operation and failing to comply with a breath demand. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She will appear in court November 25.
