Arrest in theft involving pepper spray

A man has been arrested after pepper spray was discharged at a customer during an organized theft last year at a south-end business.

Just before 6 p.m. August 20, 2025, four men entered the LCBO on Scottsdale Drive and selected more than $4,600 worth of merchandise. As they were walking from the store, a customer intervened and attempted to stop them. One of the men discharged pepper spray into the customer’s face to allow them to escape.

Two men were arrested earlier this year for theft under $5,000 and assault with a weapon. This week a 52-year-old man was also arrested for theft under $5,000. He remains in custody and will return to bail court November 12. The investigation is ongoing. (Occurrence number GU25054432)

Lost passport leads to arrest

A Guelph man who attended the police station Thursday to collect lost property ended up behind bars.

The man intended to pick up his passport, which had been found and turned over to police. However, it was learned he was also the subject of a nearly four-year-old bench warrant for missing court dates on impaired driving charges.

A 67-year-old Guelph man is charged with failing to appear. He was held for a bail hearing Friday. (Occurrence number GU26076540)
