Three pedestrians struck in less than two hours
All road users are reminded to be aware of their surroundings after three pedestrians were struck by vehicles in less than two hours Wednesday afternoon.
Fortunately none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Just after 1:30 p.m. emergency services were called to the intersection of Cassino Avenue and William Street. A man in his 20s was transferred to hospital with minor injuries after he was struck while crossing within the crosswalk.
At 3:15 p.m. a woman called police from Guelph General Hospital. She reported she had struck a pedestrian who was crossing the road at Gordon Street and Arkell Road a short time earlier and decided to drive the woman to hospital herself for treatment of facial injuries.
Minutes later, emergency services were called to Eramosa Road at Stevenson Street North for another report of a pedestrian struck. Investigation revealed a woman in her 70s was crossing within the crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle making a left turn. The victim was transported to hospital with a possibly broken arm.
Each of the drivers face charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
All road users are urged to slow down and be aware of their surroundings. Always attempt to make eye contact with other users so everyone’s intentions are clear. (Occurrence numbers GU26072469, GU26072498, GU26072502)
Extortion attempt
Residents are reminded to be very cautious when dealing with unknown individuals online after a Guelph man found himself the target of an extortion attempt Wednesday.
The man contacted police to report he was being extorted after communicating online with someone he believed to be a woman in another country. During the communication the other party recorded an incriminating video of the complainant and threatened to share it with his Facebook contacts unless he paid $2,000.
The man did not send any money.
Intimate images should never be shared online, as they can be saved and redistributed at any time. If someone requests such images - especially someone not personally known to you – do not comply and cease communicating with them. (Occurrence number GU26072499)

Officers responded after a resident near Hands Drive and Dooley Place reported two people in the neighbourhood at 4:20 a.m. Officers located two people looking through property nearby and detained them. One was found in possession of a wallet stolen from a car in the area and he was arrested.
A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft under $5,000. He will appear in court January 5.
Residents are urged to immediately report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhood. Officers will respond as they are able to identify the individuals and determine their intentions. (Occurrence number GU26072362)
