Pair arrested on drug, weapons charges
A Guelph man and woman face drug and weapons charges following their arrests Friday afternoon.
Earlier this fall members of the Guelph Police Service began investigating a man believed to be involved in trafficking controlled substances. On Friday afternoon the man and a woman were observed leaving a north-end motel and were placed under arrest.
A search of the pair revealed a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine, Dilaudid tablets and cash. A search of the motel room revealed more suspected cocaine, contaminated digital scales and weapons including bear spray, a collapsible baton and hunting knife. The seized drugs have an estimated value of more than $18,000.
A 25-year-old Guelph man and 28-year-old Guelph woman are each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon. The man is also charged with 17 counts of breaching court orders. Both were held for bail hearings Tuesday. (Occurrence number GU26067703)
Arrest after breaking into fire station
A Guelph man faces a number of charges after breaking into a fire station and damaging one of the trucks.
Early Sunday morning a man pried open a window and cut a screen to gain access to the fire station on Speedvale Avenue East while firefighters were inside sleeping. The man entered a fire truck and caused damage by ripping out the radio’s microphone and damaging a lever. The damage caused the truck to be taken out of service until it can be repaired.
The man fled after a captain was awakened by noise. He was found hiding in the area following a canine track. While searching him officers recovered a Guelph Fire Department hat and small quantities of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine.
Investigation revealed the man was also wanted after a stolen SUV was crashed and abandoned in the west end last month.
A 40-year-old Guelph man is charged with break and enter, mischief over $5,000, possessing stolen property, disguise with intent, two counts of possessing controlled substances, dangerous driving, failing to remain and breaching a probation order. He will appear in bail court Tuesday. (Occurrence numbers GU26068177, GU26063345)
$13k in lights stolen
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after lights valued at approximately $13,000 were stolen from a downtown business.
On Friday morning officers attended the Old Quebec Street Shoppes after staff reported four large lights were stolen from outside the mall over two nights in late September. The lights are valued at $3,300 each, which does not include a significant cost to repair the damage.
The suspect appeared to be a male dressed in black clothing and wearing a hat. On the second occasion he was accompanied by a woman with a dog.

Motorcyclist doubled speed limit
Five motorists were charged with stunt driving in Guelph over the weekend, including a Kitchener motorcyclist caught going more than double the speed limit.
On Saturday afternoon a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was patrolling near Wellington Street West and Imperial Road South when he clocked a motorcycle travelling 121 km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone.
A 40-year-old Kitchener man is charged with speeding, stunt driving and driving with an expired licence. His motorcycle was impounded for 14 days and his licence was suspended for 30 days.
Four other drivers were charged over the weekend after they were caught driving more than 40 km/h over the speed limit. Each had their vehicles seized and their licences suspended. A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points. Two impaired driving arrests
Two drivers were arrested for impaired driving in Guelph over the weekend.
Just after 7 p.m. Saturday an officer driving in the area of Gordon Street and Clair Road observed a vehicle driving very close to the car in front of it, with the driver braking several times to avoid a collision.
The vehicle was stopped and a strong odour of alcohol could be detected coming from the driver. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where tests revealed he had more than twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system. A 51-year-old Cambridge man is charged with impaired driving.
Approximately 2:45 a.m. Sunday police were called to a north-end retirement home for a woman passed out in a vehicle which was blocking the driveway. Officers observed signs of impairment and located a baggie in the cup holder with a white crystal substance.
The woman was arrested and transported to the police station, where an officer trained in drug recognition concluded her ability to operate a vehicle was impaired. A 24-year-old Guelph woman is charged with impaired operation and possessing a controlled substance.
Both accused had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
