Man arrested during metal theft in progress
A Guelph man faces a number of charges after Guelph Police Service officers interrupted a metal theft at an east-end business early Wednesday.
Just before 3:30 a.m. officers were dispatched to a business near Victoria Road South and York Road where they found a man looking through trailers. Officers noted he had a flashlight in his hand and brass and copper plates in his possession.
He was standing beside a spray-painted Toyota Camry which had earlier been reported stolen and had the Camry owner’s wallet in his possession. Officers noted a number of copper plates in the trunk.
A 35-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000, possessing stolen property under $5,000, theft under $5,000, possessing break-in instruments and two counts of breaching probation orders. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday. (Occurrence number GU26068923)
Porsche rims stolen in break-in
The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a large number of distinctive Porsche rims were stolen from a business and later recovered.
On Tuesday afternoon police were dispatched to an east-end business. Staff reported a man was caught on camera gaining access to the building approximately 2 a.m., taking a look around and then leaving. He returned a short time later with another person and they removed the rims and some tools. The complainant contacted a number of scrap metal dealers, one of whom confirmed they had purchased rims matching the description. They were returned to the complainant.

Stunt driver gets wife’s car impounded
A Kitchener man had some explaining to do after getting his wife’s car impounded for two weeks Tuesday night.
Just after 11 p.m. a Guelph Police Service officer was conducting speed enforcement on Woodlawn Road West near Elmira Road North when he clocked a black Hyundai at 112 km/h zone in a posted 60 km/h zone.
As the officer pulled out to stop the Hyundai, he observed it swerving into the centre left-turn lane to get around a slower vehicle. When he was pulled over the driver said he was driving his wife’s vehicle home from work.
A 47-year-old Kitchener man was charged with stunt driving. His licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points. (Occurrence number GU26068904)
