Indecent act arrest downtown

A Guelph man was arrested after an indecent act Monday afternoon at a splash pad.

Just after 5 p.m. a man attended the splash pad in front of City Hall, removed his shirt and sat down. While seated the man was observed touching himself with his hands inside his pants while looking in the direction of two parents and their young daughter.

The girl’s father confronted the man and forced him to leave the area.

A 51-year-old Guelph man was located by officers nearby and arrested for committing an indecent act in public and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday. (Occurrence number GU26058665)

‘Sextortion’ attempt

Residents are reminded to be extremely cautious when sharing information or intimate images online after a Guelph teen was the target of a so-called “sextortion” attempt.

On Monday evening officers were called to a south-end residence where a 15-year-old boy reported he was being asked for money after sending two explicit photos of himself through social media. The suspect, who initially claimed to be a teenaged girl, was threatening to post the photos online.

No money was sent and the investigation is ongoing.

Intimate images should not be shared online, as they can be saved and redistributed at any time. If someone requests such images -- especially someone not personally known to you -- do not comply and cease communicating with them. (Occurrence number GU26058578)
