Arrest after repeat business break-ins

A Guelph man has been arrested after a downtown business was broken into twice over the weekend.

Just before midnight Saturday police were called to a business on Quebec Street after the business’ IT person observed someone on camera attempting to pry open a rear door.

Officers attended quickly but the suspect had fled. Pry marks were observed around the locking mechanism and a small amount of cash was reported missing.

On Sunday morning, staff advised the business was entered a second time at approximately 6:20 a.m. and a further theft was reported. The suspect was wearing the same clothes in both occurrences and had his shirt pulled up to cover his face, however officers were able to identify him from security video.

On Wednesday a 35-year-old Guelph man was arrested for two counts each of break and enter and wearing a disguise. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday. (Occurrence number GU26061054)

Arrest after exposing self outside school

A Guelph man was arrested Wednesday after walking past a school with his genitals exposed.

Just before 1:15 p.m. police received a report of a man partially nude and possibly touching himself in a park near Eramosa Road and Victoria Road North. The man was observed leaving the park with his pants still around his knees and a short time later walked past a nearby school.

Officers were shown photos and videos of the man and later observed him walking in the area and placed him under arrest. A 32-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts of committing an indecent act. He will appear in court December 1. (Occurrence number GU26061065)

Fleeing officer leads to arrest

A Guelph man faces several charges after he fled from one police officer Wednesday and provided a false name to another.

Just after 2 p.m. the man was observed drinking in a downtown park. An officer recognized him and knew he was on bail with conditions to reside at an address in Paris and not to be out without his surety. The man was told he was under arrest but refused to cooperate and fled the area.

A short time later he encountered another officer and provided a false name. His true identity was determined and he was placed under arrest.

A 39-year-old Guelph man is charged with escaping lawful custody, obstructing police, breaching a probation order and two counts of breaching a bail order. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday. (Occurrence number GU26061061)
