Arrest after indecent act at splashpad

A Toronto man faces charges after removing all his clothes at a Guelph splashpad full of children Sunday.

At 10:30 a.m. Sunday police were called by City of Guelph Bylaw officials to the splashpad in front of City Hall. A man had attended and stripped naked before entering the water.

A 41-year-old Toronto man was arrested for committing an indecent act. He was released from the police station with conditions including one banning him from attending splashpads, however police were called to the City Hall splashpad a short time later after Bylaw officials spotted the man there.

Investigation revealed he had also entered a downtown business and stole a bottle of alcohol, which was recovered when he was arrested. He is further charged with theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with an undertaking. He was held for a bail hearing Monday. (Occurrence numbers GU26062168, GU26062223)

Robbery, weapons charges

A Guelph woman faces robbery and weapons charges after a man reported having a knife pulled on him at a downtown bus stop.

Just after 2 a.m. Saturday a man reported he had been sitting in a bus shelter on Norfolk Street when he was approached by a woman who pulled out a knife and held it towards him while demanding his property. She blocked the exit while making threats. The pair are known to each other.

The man was able to flee the shelter and call police. The woman was located walking in the area and arrested. A 49-year-old Guelph woman is charged with robbery, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, forcible confinement and uttering threats. She will appear in court December 1. South-end home entered

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after jewelry and an expensive bag were stolen from a south-end residence.

Approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday a man entered a home near Gordon Street and Edinburgh Road South by smashing a decorative window and reaching in to unlock the door.

A Gucci bag and jewelry with a total value of approximately $7,000 were stolen. The investigation is ongoing. (Occurrence number GU26062139)

Impaired driver arrested in drive-through

Five drivers were taken off the road for impaired driving in Guelph over the weekend, including one who fled a collision then drove his smashed car the wrong way through a drive-through.

Approximately 11:45 p.m. Sunday police were called to the McDonald’s at Watson Parkway North and Eastview Road. Staff reported a male in a heavily-damaged car had entered the drive-through via the exit. Officers arrived a short time later and blocked the car in.

Investigation revealed the driver had rear-ended an SUV at the intersection of Victoria Road North and Eramosa Road and then fled. Officers noted the man had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. He was transported to the police station where tests revealed he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 49-year-old Elmira man is charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. Police believe the suspect’s vehicle may have been involved in a second collision. ·        A 49-year-old Guelph man was arrested for impaired driving, dangerous driving and uttering threats following a traffic stop on Woodlawn Road West Saturday evening. The driver was uncooperative with police and repeatedly threatened responding officers.

·        A 20-year-old Simcoe County man was arrested for impaired operation after two men were found sleeping in a pickup on St. Arnaud Street Friday morning. Several open containers of beer were located inside.

·        A 60-year-old Erin man was arrested for impaired driving following a traffic stop on Elmira Road North Saturday afternoon after a report of a vehicle being driven erratically.

·        A 37-year-old Paris man was arrested for impaired operation after he was observed leaving a licensed establishment on Silvercreek Parkway South late Saturday.

Each of the accused had their licences suspended for 90 days and their vehicles impounded for seven days. Each was released with upcoming court dates.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
