Arrest after man cut by thrown glass

A Guelph woman was arrested Monday after a man was cut by a thrown glass inside a downtown bar last week.

On Friday the victim called police to report the assault which occurred the previous night. He said he was at a bar and got into a verbal altercation with a woman he just met that night. The altercation became physical when the woman threw a glass, which struck the victim’s upper lip causing a laceration which required stitches.

On Monday a 20-year-old Guelph woman turned herself in to police and was arrested for assault with a weapon. She will appear in court December 1. (Occurrence number GU26061724)

West-end business entered

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a west-end business was entered early Monday.

Approximately 7 a.m. police were called to a business near Silvercreek Parkway North and Speedvale Avenue West. The owner said security cameras caught three men arriving just before 2 a.m. in what appeared to be a Honda Odyssey van. They used crowbars to pry open a rear steel door.

A quantity of cash was stolen and a cash register was damaged.

Impaired arrest after narrowly missing cruiser

A Guelph man faces an impaired driving charge after almost colliding with a Guelph Police Service cruiser early Tuesday.

Approximately 2 a.m. an officer was patrolling on Speedvale Avenue East near Metcalfe Street when he observed a vehicle ahead of him making a U-turn without proper lighting.

After completing the turn the driver had difficulty maintaining his lane and almost hit the cruiser as he passed. The vehicle was stopped and the driver was confused and showed signs of impairment.

After failing a roadside breath test he was arrested and transported to the police station, where further tests revealed he had twice the legal amount of alcohol in his system.

A 26-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired driving. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court October 27.

The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to be responsible if they choose to consume alcohol and cannabis. Please don’t drive if you are going to consume alcohol or cannabis, and please ensure that you plan ahead so that you have a safe ride home.
