Luring arrest after undercover investigation

A man has been arrested for luring after an undercover Guelph Police Service investigation.

In August, police learned a note had been found on a Guelph Transit bus which read “looking for a girlfriend” and included a phone number.

The Guelph Police Service Internet Child Exploitation Unit began an undercover investigation which involved communicating with a man using the persona of a 13-year-old girl. The man began steering the text conversations toward sexual topics and eventually arrangements were made to meet up.

On Thursday morning the man was arrested near the location he had arranged to meet the child.

A 34-year-old man was arrested for luring a child under 16 and disobeying a court order. He was held for a bail hearing next Tuesday. (Occurrence number GU26057048)

Arrest after stranger threatened with weapon

A Guelph man faces charges after a woman was threatened by a stranger with a weapon Thursday morning.

Just after 7:30 a.m. police were called to a parking lot on Stone Road West. The victim said a man approached with a weapon in his hand and threatened her. She called police and the man fled but was located and arrested a short distance away. A screwdriver was recovered.

A 38-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and breaching a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing and has been released to appear in court October 1. (Occurrence number GU26064980)
