Cash register stolen from business

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a cash register was stolen during a break-in to a downtown business.

On Wednesday police were called to the business near Macdonell Street and Norfolk Street after staff arrived to find the front door kicked in. The register containing an undisclosed amount of cash was missing.

Three officers assaulted during investigation

A Guelph woman faces charges after three Guelph Police Service officers were assaulted Wednesday after responding to a disturbance.

Just after 7 p.m. police were called to an address near Speedvale Avenue East and Marlborough Road. They encountered a woman who was irate and confrontational. While officers were trying to apprehend the woman she twice kicked an officer in the leg.

She was transported to hospital for assessment, where she remained confrontational and scratched a second officer’s arm before throwing urine at a third, striking his pants and shoes.

A 31-year-old Guelph woman is charged with three counts of assaulting police. She was held for a bail hearing Thursday. (Occurrence number GU26059239)

Man arrested after motorcyclist flees police

A Guelph man faces several charges after a motorcyclist fled police last weekend.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Sunday a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was patrolling near Watson Parkway North and Eastview Road when he observed a motorcycle with a very loud exhaust. The driver revved the bike several times while stopped.

The officer then observed the motorcyclist riding on Eastview Road at an excessive speed and passing other traffic by crossing the solid yellow line on a hill. The officer activated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the bike after another unsafe pass, but the driver sped up and fled the area.

Through investigation police were able to identify the rider and learned he is a suspended driver and currently has other criminal driving charges pending before the courts.

On Wednesday morning a 26-year-old Guelph man turned himself in to police and was arrested for dangerous driving, flight from police, stunt driving, driving while suspended and several other Highway Traffic Act charges. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday. (Occurrence number GU26058395)
