Downtown business entered twice

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after a downtown business was broken into twice over the weekend.

Just before midnight Saturday police were called to a business on Quebec Street after the business’ IT person observed someone on camera attempting to pry open a rear door.

Officers attended quickly but the suspect had fled. Pry marks were observed around the locking mechanism and a small amount of cash was reported missing.

On Sunday morning, staff advised the business was entered a second time at approximately 6:20 a.m. and a further theft was reported.

The suspect was described as a white male, 5’10” with a medium build. He was wearing red shorts with white writing on the leg, black and white high-top sneakers and a dark long-sleeved shirt pulled up to conceal his face.

Weapons charge after bat, golf club brandished

A Guelph man faces assault and other charges after a woman was chased by a man brandishing a golf club.

Just before 3 p.m. Monday police were called to an apartment building on Speedvale Avenue East. A woman reported a man known to her asked her for cigarettes, and when she refused he retrieved a baseball bat and smashed her window.

The man then approached a second woman, also known to him, and began threatening her while banging the bat on the ground. He then dropped the bat and picked up a golf club, which he raised above his head while chasing the woman around the parking lot.

Officers arrived a short time later and arrested him. A 66-year-old Guelph man is charged with assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, four counts of breaching probation orders and two counts of breaching bail conditions. He was held for a bail hearing Tuesday. (Occurrence number GU26060503)

Man arrested after finger broken

A Guelph man has been arrested after a woman had her finger broken during a dispute between roommates.

Just after 7 p.m. September 1, police were called to an apartment near Willow Road and Bagot Street. The resident reported he has been having issues with a roommate and asked the other man to move out.

He smashed a television before trying to force his way into the complainant’s bedroom. During the struggle the complainant’s girlfriend got her finger jammed in the door, fracturing it.

On Friday a 42-year-old Guelph man was arrested for assault causing bodily harm and mischief under $5,000. (Occurrence number GU26058943)

Acura SUV stolen

The Guelph Police Service is investigating after an Acura SUV was stolen from a west-end address.

On Sunday morning a resident of Silvercreek Parkway North reported her white 2020 Acura RDX had been stolen overnight from the parking lot of her townhouse complex.

A short time later a resident called to report property including ownership and insurance documents had been found behind a nearby school.

Impaired driving arrest

A Guelph man is charged with impaired driving after he was found passed out in a running vehicle Sunday morning.

Just after 6:30 a.m. police were called to an apartment building to investigate someone who had been parked in a running pickup for approximately three hours. Officers arrived to find the man asleep in the driver’s seat of the truck, which was blocking the only entrance to the building.

Officers woke the man and noted signs of impairment. After failing a roadside breath test the man was transported to the police station, where further tests confirmed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A 39-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in court October 20.
