Practice basic intersection safety
Intersections represent some of the most dangerous locations on our roads, with increased opportunities for conflicts between all road users.
The Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit would like to remind everyone about some basic road safety rules to help make intersections safer.
Drivers facing an amber traffic signal should stop their vehicle if it is safe to do so, and otherwise to proceed with caution. Failing to comply could result in a $180 fine and three demerit points.
Pedestrians approaching a solid or flashing “don’t walk” indicator should not enter the roadway but rather wait for the next pedestrian walk cycle. Failing to obey a “don’t walk” indicator could result in a $50 fine.
Cyclists are reminded they should not ride their bike within a crosswalk at an intersection or any other location controlled by a traffic control signal system. Riding in a crosswalk could result in a $100 fine.
These simple rules are designed to keep our roads running safely and when we all follow the rules everyone is safer. Let’s all do our part to keep our roads safe!
