Compliments

It is very important for all Guelph Police Service members to learn from positive contact with community members and of course everyone enjoys a friendly compliment!

We want to be aware of what works in our overall Service delivery so that we can continue to provide great service.

If you have recently had a positive interaction with a member of the Guelph Police Service or have observed a member performing his or her duty or delivery of service, we would like to hear from you.

Feel free to send us a compliment.

You can also send us compliments via regular mail, telephone, fax or e-mail to our Professional Standards Branch. Once your compliment is received we will pass it on to the member and ensure that it is properly acknowledged.

What should you include in your compliment?

Some information that would be helpful to include in your compliment is:

  • Name of the member if known
  • Badge or employee number if known

Complaints about Police Officers

The Guelph Police Service is committed to working with all members of the community and to being accountable in everything we do.You may file a complaint about the conduct of police officers with the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency by submitting a completed form through the LECA website using the link below.

All complaints made about police officers go to the LECA and will be reviewed before a decision is made how to proceed. The police service in question, another police service or the LECA themselves may investigate the complaint. The outcomes of all complaints are reviewed by the LECA.

Complaints about Special Constables

To submit a complaint about a special constable employed by the Guelph Police Service, please click the link below to fill out a form, completing as much detail as you can to help us conduct a thorough investigation. Any complaints related to special constables employed by another institution must be submitted to the institution in question.

The Gueelph Police Service is committed to conducting a complete and thorough investigation of complaints.

Please note, as per Section 2(2) of Ontario Regulation 411/23 (Complaints About Special Constables), the following persons shallnotfile a complaint via this process and shall instead follow the applicable procedure set out in section 183 or 185 of the Community Safety and Policing Act.

  1. Other employees of the special constable employer.
  2. Other members of the police service in which the special constable is employed,and members or employees of the police service board that maintains the police service.
  3. The Minister.
  4. The Inspector General, a deputy Inspector General or an inspector appointed under section 111 of the Act.
  5. The Complaints Director, a deputy Complaints Director, an employee in the Law Enforcement Complaints Agency or an investigator.
  6. SIU Director or an employee or investigator in the Special Investigations Unit.

Complaints about the Chief or a Deputy Chief

The CSPA introduced new legislation for Police Service Boards to receive compaints about the Chief of Police and Deputy Chiefs of Police. If you would like to submit a complaint about either of these positions, please email board@guelphpolice.ca.

Complaints About the Board or General Performance of the Service

The Inspector General of Policing is a new policing oversight body under Ontario’sCommunity Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA). The Inspector General is responsible forensuring policing is delivered adequately and effectively across Ontario and that policeboard members are complying with the Code of Conduct. The Inspector General exercisesindependent compliance oversight focused on ensuring police services, police serviceboards and board members, and special constable employers are complying withrequirements under the CSPA for policing and police governance.

The Inspector General of Policing is supported by the Inspectorate of Policing, a neworganization comprised of professionals that are dedicated to driving improvedperformance in Ontario policing and police governance.Members of the public can file complaints with the Inspector General concerning adequateand effective police service delivery, or allegations of police board member misconductthrough our website: www.iopontario.ca.
