Crime Prevention Week highlights everyone’s role in preventing crime

The Guelph Police Service is joining police services and community partners across Ontario to recognize Crime Prevention Week, which runs November 1-7. This year’s theme, ‘Protecting Ontario Together,’ highlights how all Ontarians play an important role in preventing crime and building safer communities.

Crime prevention requires collaboration among police, government, community organizations, businesses and residents. Through education, awareness, reporting and community engagement, everyone can contribute to reducing victimization and strengthening community safety.

Reporting crime and sharing information with police can help identify patterns, inform investigations and address emerging community safety concerns. Residents who witness suspicious activity or experience crime are encouraged to contact police through appropriate reporting channels.

“Crime Prevention Week is all about how we, as a community, can strengthen the connections that help us be safe in our homes, neighbourhoods, workplaces and in public,” said Guelph Police Deputy Chief Steve Gill. “We encourage all community members to learn about local safety initiatives and work with us to prevent crime.”

Crime Prevention Week is supported by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) and the Government of Ontario.
