Drug, weapons charges following arrest downtown

A Guelph man faces drug and weapons charges following his arrest Thursday morning outside a downtown social service agency.

Just before 10 a.m. police were called after someone reported a man in possession of a handgun. Officers arrived and arrested the man. During a search a black BB gun was located inside a reusable shopping bag.

He was transported to the police station, where a further search revealed approximately $800 worth of fentanyl and almost $900 in cash.

A 60-year-old Guelph man is charged with possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of breaching court orders. He was held for a bail hearing Friday. (Occurrence number GU26061283)
