Guelph Police Service Not Participating in Federal Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program
The Guelph Police Service is not participating in the Federal Assault-Style Firearms Compensation Program (ASFCP) as an authorized collection agency. This means that for persons wishing to surrender a prohibited firearm to the Guelph Police Service, it will be accepted but no compensation will be provided.
Firearm owners are reminded that they have until Oct. 30, 2026, to safely dispose of, or permanently deactivate, restricted firearms or risk criminal liability for the illegal possession of a prohibited firearm.
Residents who would like to safely dispose of unwanted firearms may contact our Communications Unit at 519-824-1212 to arrange for safe officer-led disposal. Residents should never bring firearms directly to the Guelph Police Service Headquarters.
The Guelph Police Service is committed to continuing its proactive efforts to reduce gun violence and protect the public by working with its policing partners locally, provincially and federally.
More information on the ASFCP program can be found on the Public Safety Canada website.
