Guelph Police Service's Statement Regarding Crime Stoppers Data Breach

Protecting people who come forward with information is essential to community safety and public trust. The Guelph Police Service recognizes the serious concerns raised by reports about the cybersecurity breach involving the P3 tip-management platform used by Crime Stoppers programs across Canada, particularly for people who shared information with the expectation of anonymity.

In June 2026, we learned the breach included data from Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington. Guelph Police Service immediately stopped promoting Crime Stoppers as a reporting option through our public communications as a precaution. Members of the public are encouraged to contact police directly with information about crime or public safety concerns as we are not currently accepting tips from Crime Stoppers.

We understand that this situation may leave people concerned about information they have previously shared. While the Guelph Police and Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington work closely in support of community safety, they are separate organizations, and the platform involved is operated independently of the Guelph Police Service.

Questions about the breach, what information may have been affected or the measures taken in response should be directed to Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington or the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association. If you believe there is an immediate threat to your safety, call 911.

Anyone with information about a crime or public safety concern is urged to contact the Guelph Police Service directly through its non-emergency line. In an emergency or to report a crime in progress, call 911. The Guelph Police Service’s commitment to protecting the safety of those who come forward is unwavering.
