Man dies after being hit by train

Shortly after 6:30 a.m. this morning, a man was struck by a GO train east of the Guelph Central GO station. Emergency services responded to the scene where the man was confirmed deceased.

At this time, no further details about the victim are being released until officers are able to notify their family.

The area has reopened to traffic and service on the Kitchener GO line has resumed following completion of the on-site investigation. Visit the GO website for service updates.

Copper wire stolen from business

Guelph Police Service is investigating an incident involving the theft of an estimated $40,000 worth of copper cables from a business in the area of Woodlawn Road and the Hanlon Parkway. The incident occurred during the overnight hours and was discovered by an employee when they arrived at work Wednesday morning.

The incident remains under investigation. Distraction theft in parking lot

A woman’s purse was stolen from her vehicle earlier in the parking lot on Stone Road. The incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. The woman and her husband were returning to their car after leaving a business in the plaza. They were approached by a female suspect asking for help finding a medical office. While the two women were speaking, a male suspect who was with the female, reached into the vehicle and stole the purse from the backseat.

Police are encouraging people to remain aware of their surroundings, ensure their vehicle’s doors are locked and keep valuables are out of sight.
