Speeding incident

A 29-year-old driver was pulled over for speeding Tuesday evening around 10 p.m. The driver’s speed was confirmed by radar going 106 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. When stopped, the driver could not produce his licence. The driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle he was driving was impounded for 14 days.

A stunt driving charge is applicable under the highway traffic act if a driver is driving a motor vehicle at a rate of speed that is 40 km/h or more over the speed limit, if the speed limit is less than 80 km/h. A stunt driving conviction will attract a minimum licence suspension of one year, a minimum fine of $2,000 and six demerit points. Drivers are also reminded that under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, drivers are required to carry a valid driver’s licence along with vehicle registration and proof of insurance when operating a vehicle.  (Occurrence number GU2614268)

Counterfeit bills

Guelph Police Service is investigating after several local businesses reported suspected counterfeit bills being used for purchases. The bills used in three separate incidents are $50 and $100 denominations. To report counterfeit money, businesses can call the non-emergency line 519-824-1212. Weapons surrendered

Guelph Police Service would like to remind the public that weapons of any kind should not be brought into the station except under the direction of officers. The reminder comes after two separate incidents on Tuesday, where members of the public entered the station looking for assistance with safe destruction of property they no longer needed. Residents who would like to safely dispose of unwanted firearms may contact our Communications Unit at 519-824-1212 to arrange for safe officer-led disposal.
