Driver charged after pickup strikes light standard
Guelph Police Service has charged a driver after a pickup truck reportedly struck a light standard, blocking all lanes of Stone Road East.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, an officer arrived on scene near Stone Road East and Victoria Road South found a light standard lying across the road. A witness told police a pickup had approached their vehicle rapidly from behind, followed closely and passed at a high rate of speed before striking the light standard.
Police located the damaged pickup near the intersection and arrested the driver after observing signs of impairment. Tests later showed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in their system.
A 57-year-old Guelph man is charged with impaired operation, impaired operation with a blood-alcohol concentration of 80-plus and dangerous operation.
The Guelph Police Service would like to encourage the public to consume alcohol and cannabis responsibly. They warn people not to drive if they consume alcohol or cannabis, and plan ahead to ensure they have a safe ride home. Police seek motorcycle after driver flees traffic stop
Guelph Police are looking for a motorcycle after the driver fled an attempted traffic stop Thursday morning. At approximately 11 a.m., officers conducting traffic enforcement in a school zone attempted to stop the motorcycle after the driver failed to stop at a stop sign near MacAlister Boulevard and Victoria Road South. The driver continued at a high rate of speed and the officer lost sight of the motorcycle as it travelled eastbound on Kortright Road East. The motorcycle is described as an older model.
