Police continue to investigate dangerous behaviour during Homecoming event

The Guelph Police Service continues to investigate incidents that placed people and property at risk during a large unsanctioned Homecoming gathering over the weekend.

Officers responded to reports of objects being thrown into crowds, individuals climbing buildings and other structures, as well as incidents of shoplifting and vandalism affecting nearby businesses. Investigators are reviewing reports, video footage and other evidence to identify those responsible and lay charges where appropriate.

“Homecoming is an opportunity to celebrate, but dangerous and unlawful behavior cannot be dismissed as people simply having fun,” said Deputy Chief Steve Gill. “Throwing objects into crowds, climbing buildings and damaging property can cause serious harm. Those who put others at risk must be held accountable.”

Police are asking for the public’s assistance identifying individuals captured in videos circulating online. Investigators are interested in speaking with several individuals whose photographs have been posted on the Guelph Police Service website at www.guelphpolice.ca.

Police also encourage anyone who required medical treatment for an injury sustained during Homecoming to come forward as well as anyone whose property was damaged during the gathering.
